Loan Enquiry Follow-Up Call Script for NBFCs & DSAs

13 October 2026

A loan enquiry is the warmest lead a lender will ever get. Someone filled a form on your website, replied to an ad, gave a missed call or walked into a DSA's office and asked about a personal loan, business loan or home loan. Yet most NBFCs, banks' sales teams and DSAs in India call those leads late, call them once, and then let them go cold — while the same customer has already applied on two other apps.

This guide gives you a ready-to-use loan enquiry follow-up call script in English, Hindi and Telugu, a follow-up schedule, the qualifying questions that actually matter, and the compliance points your team must not skip.

Why loan enquiries go cold so fast

Loan customers shop around. A salaried person looking for a ₹3 lakh personal loan will usually enquire with several lenders and pick whoever gives a clear answer first. Three things kill conversion:

  • Slow first call. If you call the next day, a faster lender has often already collected documents. Read our note on speed to lead — the first few minutes matter most.
  • No qualification. Sales officers spend hours on leads that were never eligible (income too low, wrong city, poor repayment history), and too little on the good ones.
  • No second, third and fourth attempt. Many leads don't pick up the first call. Without a fixed retry plan, they simply disappear from the funnel.

The follow-up schedule that works

Use a simple, fixed cadence for every new enquiry. Stop as soon as the customer says they are not interested or asks you not to call.

WhenActionGoal
Within 5 minutesFirst callConfirm the need, ask 4–5 eligibility questions
Same day, 2–3 hours laterRetry if not answered + SMS/WhatsAppGet the first conversation
Day 1Call to share document checklistStart document collection
Day 3Document reminder callCollect missing documents
Day 7Final check-inClose, or mark as "not now" with a reason

Keep calls within reasonable hours. RBI's directions for recovery calls limit them to 8 am–7 pm, and most lenders apply similar hours to sales and service calls as good practice.

Loan enquiry follow-up call script (English)

1. Opening

"Hello, am I speaking with [Name]? This is [Agent] from [Company]. You enquired about a [personal/business/home] loan on [source] today. Is this a good time for two minutes?"

If the customer says no: "No problem. What time later today or tomorrow suits you better?" — and log the callback time.

2. Confirm the need

"Roughly how much are you looking for, and what is it for?"

3. Qualifying questions

  1. "Are you salaried or self-employed?"
  2. "What is your approximate monthly take-home salary (or yearly business turnover)?"
  3. "Which city do you live and work in?"
  4. "Do you have any loans or EMIs running right now?"
  5. "How soon do you need the money?"

Do not ask for full PAN, Aadhaar or bank account numbers on the phone. Collect documents only through your official, secure channel.

4. Next step

"Thank you. Based on this, our loan officer can check the best option for you. I'll send a document checklist on WhatsApp now. Can our officer call you today at [time]?"

5. Closing

"Thanks, [Name]. Just so you know, the final approval and interest rate depend on our credit check. You'll get the checklist in a minute."

Never promise approval, a fixed interest rate or "zero documents" on a first call. It creates complaints later and is against fair-practice norms.

Hindi and Telugu versions

Most borrowers outside metros are more comfortable in their own language — and many mix English words like "EMI", "salary" and "loan" freely. Keep the script conversational.

Hindi

"Namaste, kya main [Name] ji se baat kar raha hoon? Main [Company] se [Agent] bol raha hoon. Aapne aaj [personal] loan ke liye enquiry ki thi. Kya do minute baat kar sakte hain? … Aapko kitna loan chahiye aur kis kaam ke liye? Aap salaried hain ya apna business hai? Monthly salary lagbhag kitni hai?"

Telugu

"Namaskaram, [Name] garu na? Nenu [Company] nunchi [Agent] maatladutunnanu. Meeru eeroju [personal] loan gurinchi enquiry chesaru. Rendu nimishalu maatladavacha? … Meeku entha loan kaavali, deeniki? Meeru salaried aa leka business aa? Monthly salary sumaaru entha?"

Handling common replies

  • "What is the interest rate?" — Give the published range only: "It starts from [x]% and depends on your profile. Our officer will confirm your exact rate after the check."
  • "I already applied somewhere else." — "That's fine. Many customers compare. Would you like us to share an offer so you can compare too?"
  • "My CIBIL score is low." — Don't promise anything. "Our officer can check what options are possible. Shall I note that?"
  • "Don't call me again." — Apologise, end the call and mark the number as do-not-call immediately.

Compliance checklist before you dial

  • The lead gave consent (form, missed call or written request) and you have a record of it.
  • Your sender headers and templates are registered on DLT and you call from the right number series. Our TRAI DLT rules guide explains 140 vs 160 series.
  • Numbers without consent are scrubbed against the DND/NCPR list — see how to check DND status.
  • Agents introduce themselves and the lender by name, and DSAs say which lender they represent.
  • No misleading claims about approval, rates or fees.
  • Opt-out requests are honoured on the first ask.

Where an AI voice agent fits

The script above is repetitive, rule-based and time-sensitive — exactly the part of loan sales that suits an AI voice agent. A RANA AI employee can call every new enquiry within a minute of the form being filled, ask the same qualifying questions in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and other Indian languages (switching if the customer does), retry unanswered leads on your schedule, and hand only eligible, interested customers to your loan officers with a summary of the answers.

Your team keeps the parts that need a human: credit decisions, rate negotiation and final documentation. See how it works for lenders on our AI calling for banking, NBFC and loans page. If you also run collections, our EMI reminder call script covers the pre-due side.

Measure these five numbers

  1. Time from enquiry to first call (target: under 5 minutes).
  2. Contact rate within 24 hours.
  3. Share of leads that pass basic eligibility.
  4. Document submission rate within 3 days.
  5. Disbursals per 100 enquiries.

Track them weekly. If contact rate is low, add retries; if eligibility is low, fix your ad targeting; if documents stall, add the Day 1 and Day 3 reminder calls.

Frequently asked questions

How soon should I call a loan enquiry?

Within five minutes if you can. Loan customers usually enquire with several lenders, and the first lender to give a clear answer and a document checklist often wins the application.

What questions should I ask on the first loan follow-up call?

Confirm the loan amount and purpose, then ask whether they are salaried or self-employed, their approximate monthly income or turnover, their city, any running EMIs, and how soon they need the money.

Can I ask for PAN or Aadhaar numbers on the call?

Avoid it. Collect identity and bank documents only through your official, secure channel, and never promise approval or a fixed interest rate on the first call.

How many times should I follow up a loan lead?

A simple cadence works: first call within 5 minutes, a retry the same day, then calls on day 1, day 3 and day 7. Stop immediately if the customer says they are not interested or asks you not to call.

Can an AI voice agent make loan enquiry follow-up calls?

Yes. An AI voice agent can call each new enquiry within a minute, ask eligibility questions in Indian languages, retry unanswered leads and pass interested, eligible customers to your loan officers. Credit decisions stay with your team.
